Your Trugmakers May (2) News

Over the recent past years, I have developed an interest in gardening at an ever increasing rate. Not vegetable gardening, but gardening with a flora and fauna interest. I would dearly love a garden large enough to incorporate a veg area, but I am so surrounded with shading trees that the only area feasable for the successful propogation of vegetables is precisely where we position our sun loungers. I realise that the use of the aforementioned is normally limited to the last Friday in July through to the first Saturday in August but I like to feel that ones prepared for global warming.
I am aware that non participation of veg growing could be interpreted as 'unsupportive of ones own trade' by a 'trugmaker', but I can justify this with the analogy that a Rolls-Royce builder may enjoy and take pride in his work - but doesn't own one.

Anyway, while visiting a local Eastbourne store, outside of an adjacent pet food emporium was a beautiful fully thatched gable roof approx 6ft long. Now either this was a roof bereft of a building, or there was a serious sub-sidance problem in that area! Upon enquiry, I found the former was true and it was part of an ex display unit. Actually, there were two of them and I could have the pair for £20! The £20 was in his till before Jaqui had time to hide her purse.

A visit to my workshop furnished me with some poles and a few tools,  and voila!
Am I the man!

Using the smaller of the two, I made a Dovecote.
I have since discovered that breeding pairs of doves are expensive and my dovecote has nestboxes within to accomodate 13 pairs! Not a problem, I am sure one is able to obtain Polish doves much cheaper.

With the second and largest roof, I built a garden bar. Now thats what I call resourceful. We constantly research for justifiable excuses for barbeques, so now we have one - A Grand Bar Opening BBQ! After a couple of visits to boot sales, an optic stand, tapas bowls and beer mats completed all requirements. No more to-and-froing to the kitchen for top-ups. A structure infinitely more pleasing and useful than a Tudor style thatched high-rise residential hotel for flying rats.
